Prompt :

WITH THE FOCUS OF SOCIAL DISTANCING IN THE 2020 PANDEMIC, ‘HOUSE SHOES’ HAVE BEEN AN IMPORTANT LOOK OF OUR DAILY LOOK. TO EXTEND ON THAT IDEA OF A HOUSE SHOE, WE WERE TASKED WITH MAKING OUR OWN PAIR OF ‘HOUSE SHOES’ USING EXISTING MATERIALS AND SHOES. WITHIN A WEEKS TIME, WE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE OUR OWN FINISHED AND READY TO SHOW.

Iterating & Tear Down

After gathering materials and the shoe I would be using, I looked through what I wanted to use and pulled elements from the pack, shoe, and other smaller bits. I then tore down the shoe and pack to just the pieces I would use to construct the bulk of of design.

Construction

With each piece of the puzzle cut out, assembly was straight forward. Cropping the wool sock along with hand sewing the main part of the upper to the sock. After that was complete it was mocked up on the sole with the insole inserted to provide the correct shape of the sock to sole. Mocking up lacing was also done to assure everything was in order. Finally, gluing down of the upper to sole was complete along with drilling out the appropriate holes for the lacing system.

Utility and Comfort

Mixing the best of both worlds. With the comfort and warmth from the sole/sock combo along with the accessibility of the main pockets. For when you’re on the move or just need to get jot down something quickly.
